Georgian Silver Black Dot Paste Pendant Necklace

£385    $519    €442
A stunning and substantial 19th century pendant necklace with an ornate scrolling design and a pretty six-petalled flower at its centre.

The pendant would have started out as a different piece of Georgian jewellery, we believe part of a belt buckle or cloak clasp, and has been converted into a chunky necklace with a vintage sterling silver chain.

Most of the stones are black dot with a small number of old replacements - the Georgians (c.1714-1837) would paint a black dot on the bottom end of paste stones (the culet) to help give an illusion of depth and make them look more like real diamonds as they glittered in the candlelight.

SIZE: The pendant measures approximately 4.8 x 5.3cm, the chain is approx 18 inches long.

WEIGHT: 28.2g.

MATERIALS: 925 sterling silver, paste gemstones.

HALLMARKS/STAMPS: None on the pendant. The chain is stamped 925 (sterling silver).

CONDITION: The pendant is in good solid antique condition, with no missing stones but a few replacements ...
