Winterhalder Ebonised Bracket Clock, Stunning

19th century
Sold by Clockwise
Description

Clockwise is delighted to welcome into its collection this extremely fine quality ebonised bracket clock from the esteemed makers Winterhalder and Hofmeier. This clock is in truly magnificent condition having enjoyed deep and full refurbishments to the dial, case and movement. Every element of this clock has been stripped down and restored. The decorative brass dial with spandrels to the corners has a matted finish to the dial inner and a silvered chapter ring with a fine timing adjustment dial above the twelve with fleur de lys brass surrounds. The movement is another high quality fantastic Winterhalder and Hofmeier ting tang example that strikes every quarter on two gongs and the hour on a solitary gong. Original hands compliment the overall appearance. The case as you can see from the photos has been stripped and refinished with the sound frets re-lined and all the original brass-work polished. The case has decorative caryatids flanking the door and a brass escutcheon to the working lock with key. This clock is the finest example of its kind and comes with my usual three year guarantee.

Winterhalder & Hofmeier were considered the finest clockmakers of the Victorian era and were based in Germany’s Black Forest region. The company was established in 1810 and in 1850 Anton Hofmeier joined the company, who was himself a clockmaker and relative to the Winterhalder family. The company then became known as Winterhalder and Hofmeier. This clock has the additional 'Sch' stamp to the backplate which was used by Winterhalder & Hofmeier to denote clocks made in their Schwarzenbach location, a change made after 1850. Standing 14.5 inches tall it comes with its original pendulum, working locks and winding key, and has my standard three-year global warranty

Clockwise specialises in longcase and bracket clocks and with clients from the world of business, film, sport, royalty and aristocracy - yet more than happy with traditional clients - Clockwise has an unrivalled reputation for excellence and superb service.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
