Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This George III period Georgian estate cabinet is built from rich mahogany timber with a lustrous polish and visible grain. The structured exterior exhibits an outswept moulded cornice and two solid fielded panel doors fitted with brass hardware, opening to reveal a versatile interior. One side contains horizontal shelves while the other hosts multiple graduated drawers with small brass ring handles, alongside bracket feet at the base. Overall dimensions measure 154.5 cm high by 100 cm wide and 55 cm deep. Suiting a gentleman's library or study, this traditional storage piece functions effectively for organising paperwork, stationery, and small personal items. The enclosed cabinet design keeps contents secure and hidden behind solid timber doors when closed, adding period character and functional storage space to a room interior.

FAQs

A George III estate cabinet is a piece of storage furniture produced during the reign of King George III in Britain (17601820). These cabinets were typically designed for large country houses and estates to organise documents, accounts, or collections behind secure panelled doors.

These cabinets were primarily constructed using high-grade primary woods such as flame mahogany or Cuban mahogany. Secondary woods, used for drawer linings and backboards, usually included oak, pine, or deal, accompanied by hand-cast brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic 18th-century cabinets feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, irregular hand-planed back panels, and natural wear around brass hardware. Look for secondary timber such as oak or pine on drawer bottoms and an authentic patination that develops naturally over centuries.

A large fitted cabinet functions as a focal statement piece in a home office, dining room, or hallway. Its extensive interior drawer configuration provides hidden functional storage while adding historical grounding to contemporary spaces.

Maintain the finish by applying a natural beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing gently along the wood grain. Keep the cabinet away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage, veneer lifting, or uneven fading.
