Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Introduced during the 18th century and popularized throughout the Victorian era, entree dishes were designed to keep warm food covered at the dining table. They frequently featured removable handles that allowed the lid to be inverted and utilized as a secondary serving dish.

Victorian silver plated hollowware was typically manufactured using Electroplated Nickel Silver (EPNS), where a thin layer of pure silver was electrochemically deposited onto a nickel alloy base metal, or via the earlier Sheffield plate process fusing silver onto copper.

Authentic pieces generally display makers marks, electroplate stamps such as EPNS, or registration numbers stamped on the underside or rim. Visible wear where the base metal shows through, known as bleeding, also indicates historical age and silver plating techniques.

These dishes can be displayed on a dining room sideboard, used as decorative centrepieces on a dining table, or repurposed as elegant catch-all bowls for accessories on an entryway console table.

Clean silver plate using a soft cloth and non-abrasive silver polish formulated for plated items. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive sponges, and dishwashers, and store pieces in anti-tarnish bags when not in use.
