Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Claret jugs were designed during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries specifically for decanting and serving red wines from Bordeaux, traditionally known in Britain as claret. During the Art Nouveau period, these vessels incorporated stylized organic forms, sinuous lines, and naturalistic motifs into their metallic mounts and glass bodies.

These jugs typically feature a blown glass reservoir fitted with an electroplated nickel silver or pewter collar, handle, and hinged spout cover. The metal components were cast or stamped with decorative motifs and secured to the glass neck using specialist cement or plaster compounds.

Authentic pieces exhibit characteristic whiplash curves, asymmetrical plant-like patterns, and makers marks or EPNS stamps on the underside of the lid or collar. Natural wear to the silver plating revealing the base metal beneath, along with hand-blown glass characteristics such as a pontil mark, also indicate historic origin.

Place the jug as a focal piece on a dining table, displayed on a sideboard top, or arranged alongside crystal glassware on a drinks trolley. Its distinct silhouette provides historic detail to contemporary dining spaces and home bars.

Hand wash the interior glass reservoir with warm water and mild detergent, avoiding harsh abrasives that could scratch the surface. Clean the metallic mount using a soft cloth and dedicated silver polish, ensuring polish does not dry in carved details or seep into the join between metal and glass.
