Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Victorian comport is hand-blown from clear lead crystal and finished with detailed cut glass decoration. The piece displays intricate diamond cutting around the bowl and rim, a faceted knopped stem, and a starburst pattern cut into the underside of the circular base. Additional visual details visible on the glass include a wide horizontal fluted band around the upper body and a small white circular label affixed to the stem just above the foot. The proportions measure 23 cm high, 26 cm wide, and 26 cm deep. Suitable for domestic placement as a dining table centrepiece, this decorative crystal vessel serves as a functional display item for fruit, sweets, or floral arrangements. The clear reflective surface catches ambient light, while the heavy turned foot and sturdy stem provide reliable stability on dining tables, sideboards, or display cabinets within traditional and formal interior settings.

FAQs

A comport, or compote, is a footed pedestal dish traditionally designed to serve fruit, nuts, or sweetmeats at formal dining tables during the nineteenth century.

These pieces were typically mouth-blown from lead glass before craftspeople hand-cut geometric patterns using grinding wheels and polished the facets.

Authentic period cut glass exhibits noticeable weight due to high lead content, sharp geometric cuts rather than molded edges, and minor natural imperfections or base wear.

A crystal pedestal bowl serves as a functional centrepiece on a dining table or console, housing seasonal fruit, botanicals, or displaying standalone decorative appeal.

Hand-wash using lukewarm water and mild dish detergent with a soft cloth, avoiding dishwashers, abrasive scrubbers, and extreme temperature changes that cause cracking.
