Fish slices emerged in the mid-18th century as specialized serving utensils designed for the growing popularity of fish courses at formal dining tables during the Georgian era.

Authentic period pieces are crafted from solid sterling silver, often featuring hand-pierced blades with intricate geometric or botanical motifs and cast or tubular handles.

Authenticity is verified through clear hallmarks stamped on the metal, which typically include the makers mark, the sterling standard lion passant, the town mark, and a date letter corresponding to the active period.

These pieces can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, mounted on specialty display racks, or incorporated thoughtfully into contemporary table settings to add historical contrast.

Silver should be cleaned periodically using non-abrasive silver polish and soft cloths, and stored in tarnish-resistant cloth to prevent oxidation and maintain its finish.
