Georgian Continental Polychrome Enamelled Apothecary Or Medicine Bottle

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The World is Made of Glass Ltd.

This is a rare mid-European (probably German) small polychrome-enamelled apothecary bottle dating from the middle of the 18th century, c1750.

The bottle is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with some 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the base.

The bottle is rectangular-shaped measuring 4 cm (1,6 inches) in width and 9 cm (3.6 inches) in height. The bottle is polychrome enameled with a cartouche of blue leaves on either side of the legend ''OEL OVOR'' and surmounted by a crown and embellished with three disks. There are no chips, cracks, or any obvious evidence of restoration to the glass. There is some light rubbing of the enamel at certain points. The stopper is of spherical form and is later than the bottle but is a good fit and looks the part.

Continental soda glass. It weighs 90 g. (~ 3 oz.).
