Georgian Continental Polychrome Enamelled Beaker

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The World is Made of Glass Ltd.

This is a Georgian, Continental, mouth-blown, polychrome-enamelled glass tumbler dating from the middle of the 18th century, c1750. It has a rough pontil mark on its base.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to the rims of the base commensurate with some 250 years of use.

The glass has a bucket-shaped bowl which is polychrome enamelled with a raptor to one side and flowers to verso. It was perhaps designed with falconry in mind. The dimensions of the glass are - bowl diameter 7.3 cm (2.9 inches); base diameter 5 cm (2 inches); height 9 cm (3.6 inches).  There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is some light rubbing of the enamel at certain points.

Continental soda glass weighing in at 105 g. (~ 4 oz.).
