Description

A smart and extremely well made pair of antique inlaid walnut bedside cabinets. They were made in England, they date from around the 1890-1910 period.

The quality is amazing, they have a great look and are a very useful size. The tops and door fronts are cross banded with double herringbone inlaid borders, the walnut has stunning grain patterns and colour tones. They have beautifully moulded edges and stand on bracket feet, the drawers have high quality brass handles and fine, hand cut dovetailed joints. The construction is very solid, they are very strong and sturdy.

We have had them re-polished, they have a gorgeous overall patina and display some historical signs of wear beneath the polish here and there.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Walnut was heavily favored in cabinet making during various periods, including the Victorian and Edwardian eras, prized for its rich grain patterns and durability following earlier periods where oak and mahogany dominated.

These pieces typically feature solid timber frames with decorative walnut veneers, intricate marquetry or stringing inlays, hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, and traditional brass hardware.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the construction techniques such as hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage patterns, the presence of historical secondary woods, and natural ageing of the polish and brass fittings.

They provide a grounding element in contemporary bedrooms, contrasting effectively against minimalist walls or paired with modern lighting to create a balanced, layered aesthetic.

Maintain antique walnut by keeping it out of direct sunlight, avoiding excessive humidity fluctuations, and periodically feeding the wood with appropriate beeswax polishes rather than modern silicone sprays.
