Fine Fusee Dial Wall Clock, Superb Condition

19th century
Sold by Clockwise
Description

For your consideration I am delighted to offer this extremely fine example of an English eight day fusee wall clock. This is a high-value piece in extremely good condition and exudes quality in every aspect.

Dating from circa 1895 this lovely English fusee movement has rectangular plates with an anchor escapement and has been fully overhauled so benefits from my three year guarantee.

The oak case has fantastic colour and patination since its restoration with a lovely sheen to it. The lower door retains its working lock as does the original cast brass bezel which has a key operated fully working internal lock to the dial surround. The case also benefits from a side door and stabilising hooks.

The recently restored dial is a particular feature of this lovely clock and has the name of the retailer - F J Hicks, Yeovil - to the dial. The handsome appearance is finished by the original spade hands.

This is a truly stunning clock in gorgeous condition and it’s one of many fusee clocks I have coming onto the market.

In the 1891 edition of 'Where to Buy' Fred Hick's business was given the following description -

Mr Fred J Hicks,

Practical Watch and Clock Maker, &c,

33, Middle Street

This is a young establishment, having been started only in June 1889, and Mr Hicks has a small but well-selected stock of watches, clocks, jewellery, and optical goods, the quality and price of which will compare favourably with any house in the line.

Clockwise specialises in longcase and bracket clocks and with clients from the world of business, film, sport, royalty and aristocracy - yet more than happy with traditional clients - Clockwise has an unrivalled reputation for excellence and superb service.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
