Mercury glass, also known as silvered glass, is double-walled glassware manufactured with a reflective silver nitrate solution sealed between the inner and outer glass walls to emulate sterling silver.

Glassblowers created a double-walled vessel, poured a liquid solution containing silver nitrate into the internal cavity, and sealed the insertion hole at the base with a plug or wax.

Authentic pieces display a distinct seal or plug on the base where the silvering solution was introduced, alongside natural oxidisation and slight flaking within the sealed internal layer.
