This Edwardian candelabra suite comprises a central five-light branch candelabrum flanked by two matching single candlesticks, dating to around 1910 in a grand Regency style. The set is British-made from silver-plated electroplated nickel silver with a polished silver finish and original plating showing very little wear. The three pieces stand on shaped square bases featuring embossed foliate borders, scrolls and floral decorations which reappear along the stems, removable sconces and wax pans, alongside scroll arms and a removable flame finial on the central column. The central candelabrum stands 53.5 cm tall and each candlestick measures 30.5 cm in height. This decorative table centrepiece suite works well as a focal point on a dining table or sideboard during formal dinner parties and family gatherings.

FAQs

A candelabra suite typically comprises a central multi-arm branch candlestick flanked by a pair of matching single-arm candlesticks, designed as a decorative dining table or sideboard garniture. Popularised during the 18th and 19th centuries, these sets provided symmetrical lighting before the widespread adoption of electricity.

Pieces from this era were commonly manufactured using electroplating technology, where a thin layer of silver was electrochemically deposited onto a base metal such as nickel silver or brass. Components like arms, sockets, and bases were often cast separately and weighted internally for stability.

Authentic period silver-plated pieces usually display maker marks or EPNS stamps near the base or candle sockets. They often exhibit minor surface wear where the underlying base metal shows through high points, accompanied by crisp, hand-finished scroll or foliate detailing.

Arrange the full three-piece suite along a dark wood dining table or sideboard to create a dramatic focal display, or separate the pieces by styling the single candlesticks on a mantelpiece while positioning the main candelabrum elsewhere. Pair with plain ivory taper candles to balance classical metalwork with modern simplicity.

Clean gently using a non-abrasive silver polish applied with a soft microfibre cloth to preserve the delicate electroplated finish. Remove accumulated candle wax by soaking affected areas in warm, soapy water rather than scraping with metal instruments.
