Ships Fusee Clock, Rare, Amazing Condition

19th century
Sold by Clockwise
Description

Clockwise is pleased to have for sale this lovely eight day fusee ships clock from the respected S D Neill of Belfast. Dating from circa 1890, this extremely high quality Winterhalder & Hofmeier fusee movement clock is in excellent original condition with the case and movement having just benefitted from a full restoration and the movement having maintaining power for exact timekeeping even during winding. Along with a high quality lever platform, a glorious porcelain dial and original thick bevelled glass to the case door this really is a gorgeous and sought-after piece in stunning condition. The movement is covered by my three year guarantee and is one of many ships clocks I have for sale.

Sharman D Neill gained a Royal Warrant during his life and owned one of the grandest businesses in Belfast. He was a famous jeweller and owned a retail business active from 1884 at Donegall Place, Belfast and at Edgware Rd, London from 1852 until c. 1880.

The 1897 census lists Sharman D. Neill as a jeweller and silversmith, watch and clock manufacturer, Turret Clocks a speciality. By appointment to HRH the Prince of Wales. 12, Donegall Place Res: Rowandean, Marlborough Park.

The 1902 directory contains the following insertion

Sharman D. Neill, watch and clock manufacturer, 12, Donegall Place. By appointment to His Majesty the King.

Res: Martello Terrace, Holywood.

Sharman D Neill’s shop doors were plate glass, and incorporated a time-piece as an integral part of the 'push' plates, on the doors.

He was also renowned as the manufacturer of most of the badges for the Ulster Volunteer Force from 1912 until 1914.

Clockwise specialises in longcase and bracket clocks and with global clients from the world of business, film, sport, royalty and aristocracy - yet more than happy with traditional clients - Clockwise has an unrivalled reputation for excellence and superb service.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
