Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Ceramic table lamps inspired by East Asian motifs became widely popular in Western interiors during the late 19th and mid-20th centuries. Craftspeople adapted traditional Chinese and Japanese vessel forms, such as baluster jars and urns, into functional electric lighting fixtures featuring symbolic pierced patterns.

These lamp bases are formed from moulded or wheel-thrown clay, which is hand-carved or pierced while soft to create openwork lattice designs. After firing and application of a dark or monochrome glaze, the ceramic body is fitted with internal electrical components, a metal lamp neck, and a mounting socket.

Authentic period ceramic lamps generally feature aged electrical wiring or replaced modern fittings alongside weightier, thick-walled pottery. Look for maker marks on the underside, natural surface wear on the glaze near the base, and period-appropriate metal switch hardware.

A dark ceramic lamp provides visual grounding when set against neutral or wood panelled backdrops. Pair it with a contrasting pleated or linen shade to balance the heavy base, positioning it on a sideboard, console table, or writing desk alongside natural textures and framed artwork.

Disconnect the lamp from the mains supply prior to cleaning. Dust the ceramic base regularly using a soft, lint-free cloth or a small dry paintbrush to clean within the pierced openwork details, and brush the fabric shade gently with a soft-bristled brush.
