Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Old Sheffield Plate refers to a process invented in the 18th century where a layer of sterling silver was fused to a thicker block of copper before being rolled into sheets and worked into hollowware.

During the 18th century, tankards were primarily constructed from sterling silver, Old Sheffield Plate copper-silver fusion, pewter, or glazed earthenware, often featuring cast brass or silver hinges.

Authentic pieces often show slight copper exposure where the silver coating has worn, known as bleeding, as well as visible seam lines and die-struck maker markings unique to pre-electroplating techniques.

An antique tankard can be placed on a mahogany sideboard, integrated into a gentlemans library bookcase, or used as a central accent piece on a vintage bar cart.

Clean gently using warm water with mild soap and dry thoroughly with a soft microfibre cloth; limit the use of abrasive silver polishes to prevent wearing down the original silver layer.
