French bevelled glass trinket boxes, often referred to as glass caskets, gained immense popularity during the late 19th century in Paris, serving as luxury items for bourgeoisie dressing tables to store jewellery and keepsakes.

These pieces typically feature heavy bevelled plate glass panels held together by cast brass or gilt bronze frames, often joined with corner mounts and lined internally with silk velvet or satin.

Authentic 19th-century specimens exhibit hand-bevelled glass with minor surface imperfections, heavy cast metal frames showing natural oxidisation, and traditional pin hinges rather than modern mechanical joints.

Positioned on a dressing table, mantelpiece, or bedside table, these boxes add a reflective metallic accent and vintage texture to modern interiors while serving a practical storage function.

Clean the glass with a mild glass cleaner applied to a cloth rather than sprayed directly to protect the metal frame, and use a soft brush to gently remove dust from internal fabric linings.
