Early 18th Century Iron Bound and Deer Skin Domed Coaching Trunk 68cm, C1700.

A superbly stylish early 18th century iron, iron bound English coaching trunk circa 1700-1730 with original deer-skin, hand forged wrought iron straps, handles and inset brass initials.

A fine antique dome top early travel trunk with owners initials WF inset with brass studs to the top, a form of early luggage labels. The pine structure box frame retains very good structural integrity, held together by original hand forged iron bound straps and conspicuous iron lock.

The lining features later newspaper fragments from 1848, a fascinating read.

A practical and wonderfully decorative antique box or trunk with considerable timeworn patination and charm, the deer skin surface shows inevitable evidence of use and wear whilst most part fully intact.
