Georgian glassware, produced during the reigns of the Georges from 1714 to 1830, is characterised by heavy lead metal content, deep optical or moulded fluting, and simple yet functional forms designed for daily dining and tavern use.

These pieces were typically crafted using lead glass, often referred to as flint glass, which provided clarity and weight. Production methods involved blowing the molten glass into a dip mould to create the characteristic fluted or petal patterns, followed by hand-finishing the stem and foot.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural signs of age, such as random wear scratches, a pontil mark on the underside of the foot where the glass was snapped from the blowing iron, and slight imperfections or air bubbles within the metal itself.

Antique glass adds texture and historical contrast when displayed within modern settings, functioning effectively inside glass-fronted cabinets, on open shelving, or utilised as functional drinkware during dinner parties.

Antique glass should always be washed by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes to prevent thermal shock, and dried thoroughly with a lint-free cloth.
