Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
The eight-day movement retains its original verge escapement with fixed box pendulum and brass keep, whilst the excellent silvered 12-inch dial features Roman numerals and is well engraved with the signature and accompanying flourishes. Deeply moulded cast brass bezel, as one would expect of a wall clock of this period, complete with bezel lock, and good pierced blued steel hands. A handsome and now hard-to-find verge wall clock. Thoroughly recommended. circa 1780
Probably William Johnson of Cheshunt (Bucks) previous of London; declared bankrupt in 1781. (See Baillie page 173)
