This is a large, mouth-blown, late Victorian, French magnum cider decanter dating from the late 19th century, c1890.
The decanter is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows the age related wear and tear to the rim of the base commensurate with some 100+ years of use. The pontil mark at the base of the decanter has been polished out.
The neck of the decanter is decorated with a hand-applied annular neck ring. The body of the decanter is plain. The decanter measures 15 cm (6 inches) in diameter at its widest pouint. The decanter is 30 cm (12 inches) in height without the stopper and 36 cm (14.4 inches) tall with the stopper inserted. Th...ere is some scratching to the extremities of the decanter. There are no chips, cracks, or any evidence of restoration. There are a couple of tiny unburst bubbles in the metal of the body, dating from manufacture.
The stopper is of mushroom form and is contemporary with the decanter. It is a good fit and we believe it to be the original.
Weighing in at 1.465 kg. (~ 3 lb 4 oz.).
