A rummer is a large, sturdy drinking glass that became popular in Britain and Ireland during the late 18th and 19th centuries, traditionally used for serving ale, wine, punch, or rum.

These pieces were typically made from heavy lead glass, prized for its clarity and weight, and decorated using wheel-cutting, diamond-faceting, and delicate hand-engraving techniques.

Authentic pieces often feature a pontil mark on the base, minor surface wear consistent with age, greater weight due to high lead content, and subtle irregularities typical of hand-blown manufacture.

Antique glass can be displayed openly within glazed cabinets, utilised as tabletop centrepieces for fresh stems, or arranged on open shelving to catch natural light and add historic texture to a contemporary space.

Antique glass should always be washed by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes, and dried carefully with a lint-free cloth to protect the delicate surface.
