Eighteenth-century engraved glassware typically features wheel-engraved or diamond-point ornamentation depicting heraldic crests, royal ciphers, portraits, or allegorical scenes on potash-lime or lead glass.

These vessels were crafted using traditional glassblowing techniques, resulting in heavy-metal lead crystal or potash glass often characterised by natural imperfections such as air bubbles and pontil marks.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut wheel engravings with frosted details, genuine age-related wear including base scratching, pontil scars on the underside, and minor variations in wall thickness.

Displaying the piece inside a glass-fronted cabinet or on a decorative surface allows the fine wheel-engraving to catch ambient light while maintaining historical context.

Preserve antique glass by hand washing in tepid water with mild detergent, avoiding harsh scrubbing, and keeping pieces away from direct sunlight and temperature fluctuations.
