An 18th century ale glass is a specialized drinking vessel specifically designed and used for consuming ale during the Georgian period, typically characterised by a tall bowl and a sturdy stem.

These glasses were traditionally handmade using lead glass, often featuring moulded decorative patterns such as wrythen fluting created while the glass was hot, and finished with a folded foot for added durability.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-crafted characteristics such as pontil marks on the base, minor surface imperfections, wear consistent with age, and specific stylistic traits attributed to Georgian glasshouses.

Antique glassware can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, on open shelving with adequate lighting, or as standalone decorative accents on mantelpieces to add historical depth to contemporary spaces.

Antique glass should be washed strictly by hand using lukewarm water and mild soap, avoiding harsh chemicals, extreme temperature changes, and abrasive cloths to protect the fragile historic material.
