A 16th-century Henry VIII English Oak Linenfold Chest, circa 1540, is a rare example. Made from solid oak boards, the chest features a four-panel lid retaining its original iron strap hinges above a facade of three panels, each deeply carved with the distinctive linenfold motif. The chest stands on stile supports.
The intricate carving reflects the transition from Gothic to early Renaissance styles during Henry VIII''s reign (1509–1547). The chest displays a rich, aged patina, including a dry, untouched rear.
Signs of age and use are to be expected.
