Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A breakfront bookcase features a central section that juts forward beyond the flanking side cabinets, providing a layered architectural silhouette. Predominantly constructed during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, these large units typically incorporate glazed upper sections for book storage and solid lower doors.

These cabinets were primarily constructed using solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers over secondary timbers such as pine or oak. Glazed sections featured individual glass panes held in place with wood glazing bars or framed timber doors.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on internal drawer linings, hand-planed secondary backing boards, and slight variations in original glass panes. The patina of the mahogany timber displays natural tonal variation and oxidisation consistent with age.

A substantial mahogany bookcase serves as an architectural anchor in a study, dining room, or wide hallway. Designers contrast the dark wood tones against neutral or contemporary wall finishes to highlight the geometric lines of the cabinet.

Regular dusting with a dry microfibre cloth prevents dust build-up, while occasional applications of high-grade beeswax nourish the wood and preserve its finish. Avoid placing the furniture in direct sunlight or adjacent to heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage.
