Art Deco jewellery, prominent during the 1920s and 1930s, is characterised by geometric precision, stylised motifs, clean lines, and a heavy emphasis on platinum paired with diamonds and vibrant coloured gemstones.

Jewellers in the 1920s frequently utilised platinum for its strength and bright white lustre, allowing for delicate millegrain detailing and secure settings, alongside high-clarity diamonds and natural coloured gemstones like sapphires, rubies, and emeralds.

Authentic pieces typically feature period-appropriate metal hallmarks, hand-cut gemstones consistent with 1920s lapidary techniques such as old European or cushion cuts, and construction methods like die-rolling or hand-fabrication rather than modern casting.

A vintage sapphire ring serves as a striking standalone focal point, pairing well with minimalist contemporary bands or contrasting textures like sleek tailoring and neutral knitwear to highlight the historic gemstone.

Antique platinum jewellery should be cleaned gently using warm water, mild soap, and a soft-bristled brush, and stored separately in a fabric-lined box to prevent scratches on both the metal and the softer gemstone facets.
