Antique 2.00ct Ceylon Sapphire and 1.16ct Diamond 18ct Yellow Gold Cocktail Ring Circa 1915

1900 - 1920
For Sale by AC Silver
Description

A stunning, fine and impressive antique 2 carat Ceylon sapphire and 1.16 carat diamond, 18 carat yellow gold and platinum set cocktail ring; part of our diverse antique sapphire jewellery and estate jewelry collections.

This stunning, fine and impressive antique sapphire ring has been crafted in 18ct yellow gold with a platinum setting.

The pierced decorated design is ornamented with a central collet set 4.81ct sugarloaf cabochon cut* Ceylon sapphire.

The oval-shaped millegrain decorated setting is further embellished with thirty-four pavé set diamonds, in a combination of Old European and eight cuts.

The elevated ring shoulders are each ornamented with two further pavé set diamonds, integrating with the main setting and melding with the plain shank.

This stunning ring has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 18 carat gold and platinum.

This yellow gold antique sapphire ring is supplied with an IDGL diamond grading report card in addition to a sapphire report and certificate supplied by the Gemmological Certification Services, London*.

This sugarloaf cut sapphire cocktail ring is a luxurious choice for both gifting and personal acquisition.

Its stunning blue hue and finely crafted intricate design makes it an exceptional present for anniversaries, milestone birthdays or romantic occasions. As sapphire is the birthstone for September, it also holds special significance for those celebrating that month.

NOTE: * This high, four-sided cabochon with a pyramidal shape and softly rounded corners is known as a sugarloaf, named for its resemblance to the traditional conical loaves of sugar that were the standard form for selling and distributing sugar until the late 19th century.

** This documentation accredits the sapphire originating in Sri Lanka (Ceylon) and certifies that the gemstone shows no indications of heating.

Images do not always reflect the true colour and brilliance of gemstones and diamonds. The video however provides a truer representation of the actual colour and showcases each stone in this sapphire dress ring.

Condition

This stunning antique gemstone cluster ring is exceptional quality, set with a stunning sapphire displaying fine colour, brilliance and presence.

The impressive high colour graded diamonds display a fine white colour and brilliance.

This sapphire and diamond cocktail ring is an exceptional gauge of gold and platinum, and is in exceptional condition.

The ring has a fine and delicate shank, which is often the case with original antique rings.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine example of antique sapphire jewellery.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian rings from the early twentieth century are recognised for light, lace-like openwork filigree, milgrain detailing, and the prominent integration of platinum with yellow gold. Settings were designed to showcase central gemstones framed by intricate diamond borders.

Rings of this period commonly utilised 18ct yellow gold for the shank, paired with platinum facing to securely set diamonds and coloured gemstones such as Ceylon sapphires, rubies, and emeralds.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved filigree, precise milgrain edges, historical gem cuts such as old European or single cuts, and dual-metal construction combining platinum fronts with gold shanks.

An intricate gemstone cocktail ring serves as a focal point when paired with minimalist evening wear or crisp tailored modern suits, allowing the detailed openwork design to stand out.

Clean gently using warm water, mild soap, and a soft-bristled brush to remove dust from pierced openwork. Avoid harsh chemicals, extreme thermal shocks, and ultrasonic cleaners if gemstones contain natural inclusions.
