Rare Gothic Style Sedan Clock

19th century
Description

An interesting ~ possibly unique ~ late 18th/early 19th century SEDAN CLOCK very much in the “Strawberry Hill” manner.** The ebonised Gothic-shaped case is embellished with cast scrolls and paterae, with a brass surround and complete with its original vase-shaped hanger. The unsigned 30-hour fusee movement is original and complete with its good convex enamel dial; blued steel hands and convex glass within its cast brass bezel. Original throughout and in full working order. 24 x 14 x 3cms. circa 1800.

** Strawberry Hill in Twickenham (south-west of London) is Britain’s finest example of Georgian Gothic-revival architecture. It was purchased in 1747 by Horace Walpole (son of the first Prime Minister) who proceeded to transform it into his vision of a “little Gothic Castle”. It is now owned by the Strawberry Hill Trust, and following restoration, is now open to the public.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
