Geo III Mahogany Moondial Longcase Clock

19th century
Description

A spectacular mahogany longcase clock dating from around 1800. It is by John Simpson of Wigton (Cumberland), he is listed as working there from around 1780. The Sheraton style case is veneered in superbly figured mahogany with some unusual features. The hood has very decorative painted panels and a gilt finial in the form of a sheaf of wheat.

The 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell and displays the phases of the moon to the arch.

The case is in good condition and the movement, that looks to have recently been serviced, has all functions working as they should.

The maximum dimensions are:

233cm(92") high

60cm(23.5") wide

28cm(11") deep
