Description

For your consideration is this fabulous 1930s modernist clock originating from England. You only have to do a little research to find out how rare these clocks are, they just don't come onto the market. Great size too, much larger than regular clocks so a perfect timepiece for either mantle or desk. The mirror and thick plate glass is in great condition, free from chips, nibbles, discoloration, loss of silvering etc. The chrome does have some pitting and could be re-chromed for absolute perfection. Any admirer of modernism or pure Art Deco or just the finer things in life will appreciate this clock. As with all our clocks we've had it fully serviced and so comes to you in good working order. We've had this clock converted to battery so no winding required or ticking sound.

Art Deco clocks from the 1920s and 1930s are characterised by geometric forms, streamlined silhouettes, and the use of innovative industrial materials such as mirrored glass, chrome, and coloured vitrolite.

Clockmakers of this era frequently utilised plate glass, mirrored surfaces, chrome-plated brass, coloured glass panels, and specialized metal alloys to achieve a sleek, machine-age aesthetic.

Authentic period pieces typically exhibit age-appropriate wear such as fine surface scratches on the glass, traditional mechanical or early electric movements, and construction methods consistent with 1930s manufacturing.

Position this type of timepiece on a flat surface like a mantelpiece or sideboard where ambient light can reflect off the glass and mirror elements, enhancing its geometric visual impact.

Clean glass and mirrored surfaces gently with a soft microfibre cloth and a mild, ammonia-free glass cleaner applied to the cloth rather than directly to the object to protect vintage finishes.
