The roemer is a traditional Germanic drinking vessel that dates back to the late medieval period, evolving through the Renaissance and into the 18th and 19th centuries, frequently used for consuming white wine and hock.

Authentic roemers were traditionally mouth-blown from forest glass, known as Waldglas, which typically exhibited a natural green hue due to iron impurities in the sand, featuring applied prunts on the stem and a threaded conical foot.

Authentication involves examining the pontil mark on the base, the weight and tone of the glass, the presence of hand-engraving or wheel-cutting typical of the period, and the construction of the hollow stem and trailed foot.

Antique glassware can be displayed inside illuminated cabinets, arranged on open shelving as sculptural accents, or used as single stem flower holders to introduce historical texture into modern living spaces.

Antique glass should be washed by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and harsh scrubbing, and should never be placed in a dishwasher.
