Scottish provincial silver refers to items crafted by silversmiths working outside the main assay towns of Edinburgh and Glasgow, often bearing unique maker marks specific to towns like Dundee, Aberdeen, or Perth.

Traditional antique teaspoons are predominantly made from sterling silver, commonly of the .925 standard, though earlier or provincial pieces may vary slightly in purity and often feature hand-hammered or wrought construction.

Authentication involves examining makers marks, town marks, and provincial assay stamps, alongside checking for the characteristic weight, wear patterns, and hand-finished details typical of period manufacturing.

Antique silver spoons can be displayed in glass-fronted cabinets, used in traditional table settings, or framed as historical wall art to add metallic texture and heritage character to contemporary spaces.

Preservation requires storing silver in tarnish-resistant cloth, avoiding harsh abrasive dips that strip historical patina, and gently cleaning with a specialized microfibre cloth and mild silver polish only when necessary.
