This set of six Edwardian sterling silver teaspoons comes complete with an original fitted presentation box measuring 16 cm wide. Each spoon features an oval bowl and a handle with a scrolling design on the tip, fully hallmarked for London, 1934, by Josiah Williams & Co., alongside faint surface marks from use. The box incorporates a dark velvet base and white satin lining inside the lid, which displays retailer markings for Wm Bruford & Son Ltd in Exeter alongside minor exterior scuffs. Ideal for everyday service or display, the set brings classic English Country House character to a sideboard top. The spoons weigh approximately 60 g total and have been lightly cleaned and polished while retaining their clear hallmarks. The fitted case securely holds each piece in dedicated sections within the velvet interior, making it a practical addition to a dining collection or an afternoon tea service.

Cased silver teaspoon sets became highly popular during the Victorian and Edwardian eras in Britain as formal tea drinking established itself as a central social ritual. Silverware manufacturers produced sets of six or twelve spoons in velvet-lined fitted cases, which were frequently presented as christening, wedding, or retirement gifts.

These sets were typically crafted from sterling silver, defined as an alloy containing 92.5 percent pure silver combined with copper for strength. The accompanying storage boxes were made from wood or stiffened card covered in leatherette or paper, with interior lining made from velvet and silk or satin.

Authentic British silver items carry a series of stamped hallmarks, usually visible on the reverse of the handle or bowl. These stamps include a lion passant indicating sterling purity, an assay office symbol, a date letter representing the year of manufacture, and a makers mark.

Open presentation cases can be displayed flat or angled inside glazed display cabinets, on sideboards, or on dressers alongside modern glassware. Individual spoons can also be integrated into active table settings for dessert courses or afternoon tea service.

Clean silver flatware with a soft cloth and a specialized non-abrasive silver polish to remove tarnish without scratching the surface. Store spoons inside their fitted fabric-lined box or in anti-tarnish cloth bags away from direct heat and moisture, and avoid washing silver in automatic dishwashers.
