Scent bottles from the Victorian era were essential personal accessories used to hold perfumes, smelling salts, or attars, often carried in fitted travel cases or displayed on dressing tables.

These vessels were typically crafted from blown or moulded glass, often featuring hand-painted enamel details, gilt metal accents, or sterling silver mounts.

Authenticity is determined by examining pontil marks, hand-cut facets, wear consistent with age, and the presence of original stoppers, which are frequently replaced.

Placing small glass vessels on mirrored trays, mantelpieces, or bathroom shelves allows natural light to highlight their translucency and historical craftsmanship.

Old glass should be cleaned gently using lukewarm water and a mild detergent, avoiding harsh scrubbing on any exterior gilt or painted decorations.
