FAQs

Victorian ruby glass refers to coloured art glass manufactured during the nineteenth century, characterised by its rich red hue often produced using gold chloride compounds in the batch.

This type of glassware was hand-blown, combining a coloured glass gathering with clear glass for stems or bases, often requiring precise furnace temperatures to achieve the distinct red tone.

Authentic pieces frequently display hand-blown characteristics such as a pontil mark on the base, slight variations in glass thickness, and a clear, well-formed stem join.

A large ruby glass goblet can be placed on a sideboard or mantelpiece where natural light highlights the deep red tones, creating a vibrant focal point within contemporary or traditional schemes.

Hand wash gently in tepid water using mild liquid soap and a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive chemicals or dishwashers which can cloud or damage delicate antique glass.
