Georgian Continental (probably Bohemian), Small, Engraved Globular Decanter
Status:This item has been sold Sold by:The World is Made of Glass Ltd.
This is a mouth-blown, Continental (probably Bohemian), small, engraved globular decanter and stopper dating from the middle of the 18th century. It is probably a personal or guest decanter which would be given to the guest to use in their bedroom after retiring, filled with their favourite tipple.
The decanter is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear consistent with some 130 years of use.
The decanter is globular in shape with a short neck. The body is decorated with three bands of polished printies with copper-wheel engraving surrounding them to give a floral effect. The body sits on a short, conical foot with a small, polished out pontil mark to its centre and measures 8 cm (3.2 inches) across. The decanter is 9 cm (3.6 inches) in diameter at its widest point, is 10 cm (4 inches) in height without the stopper and 14 cm (5.6 inches) in height with the stopper inserted.
The stopper is of facet-cu...t conical form and is almost certainly the orginal. It is the same metal and colour as the decanter and of the correct shape and style. The peg is also threaded to match the internal threading of the decanter so screws in rather than pushes into the body.
There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.
The decanter weighs in at 385 g. (~ 14 oz).
We sell through our own web site taking Paypal, bank transfer and debit/credit cards and ship worldwide.
