Art Nouveau emerged in the late 19th century, characterised by organic forms, sinuous lines inspired by natural plant motifs, and fluid asymmetry.

Pieces typically combine hand-blown or mould-blown clear crystal or glass with solid sterling silver collars, often bearing hallmarks for British assay offices.

Authenticity is verified by examining the hallmarks on the silver collar for date letters, makers marks, and purity symbols, alongside checking for period-appropriate wear and manufacturing techniques in the glass.

Position the piece on a mantelpiece or side table as a standalone focal point, allowing natural light to highlight the etched surface details and silver mount without overcrowding.

Wash the glass gently in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding harsh abrasives. Clean the silver collar sparingly with a specialized silver cloth, taking care not to get polish on the glass surface.
