16th Century Elizabethan Inlaid Oak Livery Cupboard

Description

A superb Elizabethan inlaid oak livery cupboard, dating to 1570-1590, of desirable small proportions. An extremely rare example, beautifully carved and featuring intricate inlay work, geometric arch moulding, wonderfully carved cup and cover supports, along with a canted cupboard and a richly gadroon carved single drawer with foliate details .

In very good antique condition reassuring signs of age and including some repairs as to be expected.

This cupboard would have been commissioned during the late 16th century by a wealthy individual with the financial means to afford such a piece. Such items of furniture would have showcased the wealth and taste of the owner.

The cupboard was designed to separate into two pieces for ease of transportation .
