Description

A 19th Century Imari Vase.

The vase with a raised collar, over the ovoid body tapering to a raised foot rim. The collar and shoulders decorated with flowers and reserves filled with scenes of villages and flowers, set against a blue ground. The main body decorated with a profusion of flowers and foliage, whilst the foot rim is decorated with flowing scrolls.

Date circa 1850.

Height 6 1/2 inches, 16.5cm.

Diameter 4 3/4 inches, 12cm.

Originating from around 1850, this Japanese Imari porcelain vase takes an ovoid form with a raised collar and a tapered foot rim. The piece displays a hand-painted palette of cobalt blue, iron-red, orange, and hints of yellow against a white ground. Decoration includes floral motifs, landscape cartouches, diaper border patterns, and reserves filled with village scenes, whilst the foot rim features delicate flowing scrolls and the collar incorporates a square-panel geometric pattern.
