ANTIQUE #SA1039424

Local Mid 18th Century Oak Longcase Clock

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Kendall House Antiques Ltd.

Inscribed Thos.Higherns, Ladbrook. An eight day movement, striking on the hour with seconds hand and date wheel. Circa 1760. The clock runs well and keeps remarkably good time, I can say this with confidence at its been in my own home (and still is) for the last 6 years and it’s never lost a beat, however the date wheel is currently inoperative, and the chime arrives every hour approximately 10 mins late!

Thomas Higherns (otherwise lorns or lrons) was a clock maker, silversmith & gunsmith based at High Street, Alcester, Warwickshire, from at least 1759 until his death in 1808. He also signed clocks (as here) from Ladbroke Nr Southam in Warwickshire where he also retailed from. A very similar clock is illustrated in Mc Kennan , J, Clockmakers & Watchmakers of Central England figs, 8.79 & 8.80.
