Description

Superb Corinthian Column strike-repeating Carriage Clock in immaculate condition with silvered dial and separate ALARM train. Originally imported and retailed by Shaw of Glasgow.

The 8-day movement retains its original platform lever escapement and strikes hours and half-hours on a coiled gong. The silvered dial features the retailers name, black moon hands and Roman numerals. The subsidiary Alarm dial features Arabic numbering and is powered by its own smaller power train by means of a separate winder and hand / alarm time adjuster. The press 'repeat' button on the top of the clock, when depressed, strikes the last hour at will.

The clock features a hinged back door with “shutters” so that winding can be done through the door without opening by means of a slider that just opens the key holes. The back door does however open fully if required to reveal the movement. Signed to the backplate with “A*B” and with the serial number "587". Complete with key (not numbered). Shutters to the backplate were designed to make it easier to wind up the clock and keep dust out. Ensuring longer spells between cleaning and oiling.

The maker has signed the movements backplate "A*B". To date I have not been able to identify this maker but I will update if/when found.

Dimensions: Height: 16 cm (Height with handle up: 20 cm). Width: 10 cm. Depth: 9 cm.

Condition: Overall excellent, clean and without dents or chipped glass panels. Working well; impressive and highly recommended!
