Whites Antiques has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
Crafted by master artisans of the 18th Century from selected planks of dense, old-growth French oak and comprising of two separate sections this painted buffet à deux-corps features a moulded cornice overhanging two upper doors.
These doors open to reveal three inner shelves offering copious storage opportunities, while the lower section reprises the upper cabinet's décor and showcases further storage. There are hints of the original paint throughout and a later wash has been carried out to bring the time worn paints together. The exterior is of a soft light grey and the interior is of a contrasting inky blue. The ensemble is raised on a shaped frieze with four short feet, the front ones being scrolled.
There is copious storage room throughout this chic item with its wonderful hinges, pulls and escutcheons which tell of its quality. The rich patina of the painted finish works to perfect the Paris Country look. With its pleasing proportions and grand scale this antique period buffet à deux-corps reflects a restrained elegance that provides an overall style that is complementary to many décors and can serve equally well wherever it pleases you to place it such as in any principal reception room of your home, office or bedroom.
