French Brass 8-Day Carriage Clock with Strike-repeat and Alarm in a Gorge Case, C.1860.

19th century
Description

A good mid 19th century (c.1860) French Brass Strike Repeating 8-day Carriage Clock with Alarm function in a classic 'Gorge' case, possibly by LeRoy et Fils of Paris.

This clock is in excellent original condition, retaining its original platform lever escapement, white enamelled dial with roman numerals and blued steel 'moon hands'. The subsidiary dial is for the 12 hour alarm, with its own winding post. It strikes hours and half-hours on a bell. The alarm has it's own power train and timing-hand control, accessible through the back, upper left.

It comes with a key (which is 'period' but not original to this clock) and a Moroccan leather outer travel case. The clock serial number is 4445 and it appears on the front of the leather outer case, on the back of the movement and on the base plate and brass gorge case. Each face of the clock (except the base) has a bevelled glass panel (no chips or cracks)

Dimensions: Height (case) 14.5cm. Height (clock with handle 'up'): 15.5cm. Depth (case): 10cm. Width (case): 10cm

Weight (including case): 1.75 kgs

Date: c.1860.
