The roemer is a traditional form of drinking vessel that originated in Germany and the Netherlands during the late Renaissance, becoming popular across Northern Europe through the 17th and 18th centuries.

These vessels were typically hand-blown using forest glass, which naturally contained mineral impurities resulting in distinctive green hues, often featuring applied prunts on the stem for a secure grip.

Authentic pieces exhibit characteristics such as pontil marks on the base, uneven wall thickness from hand-blowing, tiny trapped air bubbles within the metal, and natural wear patterns consistent with age.

Such pieces function well as standalone decorative objects on open shelving, within glass-fronted cabinets, or utilised thoughtfully on a dining table to introduce historical colour and texture.

Antique glass should be washed exclusively by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and harsh scrubbing to preserve the fragile surface and historic finish.
