Georgian Longcase Clock Rocking Ship Automaton

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Clockwise

Clockwise is delighted to present another fine eight day Georgian longcase clock having had full restorations performed to the case, dial and movement. Dating from circa 1770, in lovely condition and standing an imposing 2.34m tall the oak case is surmounted by a hood with three reeded plinths supporting three brass finials. Reeded pillars with brass capitals to top and bottom flank the hood door to the front and back, the hood door having a turn-key handle. The plain trunk and long trunk door perfectly reflect the fashion of this pre-Regency era and the lock and key are present and working.

The twelve inch arch dial is signed ''John Branson, Hull'' and is in gorgeous condition being an early example of a painted dial with raised gesso spandrels, a working date window, subsidiary seconds dial and gesso swag-work surrounding the top dial window which features a rocking English warship with background to match. The three matching pierced hands complete the impressive appearance.
