Fine Victorian Fusee Dial Wall Clock, Excellent Condition

19th century
Sold by Clockwise
Description

Clockwise is delighted to present to you this very fine eight day fusee wall clock by the famous Evans & Sons clock company. The chain-driven movement is stamped by the makers and is of a large tapered 'A' plate design with turned pillars and has just been overhauled therefore in excellent condition, benefitting from my three year guarantee and coming complete with the original pendulum.

This dark oak case is in lovely condition and is of the standard two piece design with the dial surround attached to the back-box by four wooden pegs. There is a lower case door and a side access door also.

The 12 inch dial is stunning and the numerals are of the rare 'block' style and complimented by the original hands. The original cast bezel is heavy and houses the thick bevelled-edge glass.

The clockmakers Evans of Handsworth were one of the top makers of skeleton antique clocks in the Victorian period. John Houghton, formerly the foreman of Boulton & Watt at the Soho factory, took over their clock-making business in 1805 after the decision of the firm to discontinue clock manufacture, calling it The Soho Clock Factory. Houghton was joined by his son-in-law William Frederick Evans and, when the former decided to retire in 1843, Evans continued as WF Evans & Son. The Business ceased trading in 1934.

All in all a lovely and fully restored piece of imposing antique workmanship.

Delivery can be easily arranged.

Clockwise specialises in longcase and bracket clocks and with clients from the world of business, film, sport, royalty and aristocracy - yet more than happy with traditional clients - Clockwise has an unrivalled reputation for excellence and superb service.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
