A Fully Serviced Two Day Marine Chronometer By Barraud Of London C.1850.

A very fine and original mahogany cased marine chronometer by Barraud, Makers to the Royal Navy, 41 Cornhill, London, dating to the second quarter 19th century.
 
The three tier case is in beautiful original condition with excellent colour and patination.
 
Brass swing handles to the sides and number plaque to the front, the top lid having a central brass plaque. The original hinges and locks, with the original glazing to the upper tier.
 
The fully serviced and rated fusee movement with maintaining power, Earnshaw type spring detent escapement, free sprung blued bi metallic balance with blued helical spring, cylindrical weights and timing screws, signed silvered four inch dial with roman chapters, subsidiary seconds, 48 hour winding indicator and blued steel hands.
 
Mounted in a numbered polished brass gimballed bowl with rotating winding aperture cover.
 
Numbered 3208 on the box, dial and movement.
 
The original ratcheted tipsy winding key.
 
This high quality chronometer is in fine original condition with the movement fully serviced and rated by our FBHI and Worshipful Clockmakers Company awarded horologist.

From the eminent firm of chronometer makers founded by Paul Philip Barraud (1752 - 1820). Associated with Arnold and Earnshaw, his marine chronometers were notable for their durability and dependability. After 1838, the firm was styled Barraud and Lund and remained in business until the early 20th century.
