French crystal chandeliers gained prominence during the Louis XIV and Regency periods, characterised by intricate metal frames and cascading glass drops designed to maximise candle and gaslight illumination.

Authentic period pieces typically feature cast bronze or brass frames combined with hand-cut lead crystal prisms, glass beads, and traditional wire pin fastenings.

Authenticity is determined by examining the patination of the metal frame, the presence of hand-cut facets and minor imperfections in the glass crystals, and traditional pin-and-eyelet construction rather than modern machine welding.

Integrating an ornate crystal fixture into a modern space creates a deliberate contrast; it works effectively when hung above a minimalist dining table or within a clean-lined hallway to add textural depth.

Regular maintenance involves dusting with a soft microfibre cloth and periodically washing individual crystals by hand using a gentle solution of warm water and mild dish soap, ensuring the electrical components remain completely dry.
