Tea urns and samovars gained prominence in European and Russian households during the 18th and 19th centuries, primarily used for heating water during formal tea service.

They were typically fashioned from copper, brass, or Britannia metal, and heavily plated with silver using early electroplating techniques, complemented by cast handles and spouts.

Authenticity is determined by maker marks, old Sheffield plate or early electroplate characteristics, hand-chased ornamentation, and natural wear patterns consistent with age.

An antique urn serves as a striking focal point on a sideboard or console table, contrasting effectively with minimalist contemporary decor.

Use a non-abrasive silver polish specifically formulated for plated items, apply with a soft cloth, and avoid harsh scrubbing to protect the underlying base metal.
